Questions People Ask
If your question is not here, call us and ask. (574) 594-3532
About the company
- How long have you been doing this?
- Since 1981. Chris McClone started McClone Electric, and his son Dustin runs it now as the second generation, in the same county it started in.
- Are you licensed and insured?
- Yes.
- Where are you based?
- Kosciusko County, Indiana. Our shop is here in the county, so nobody is driving in from somewhere else to do your job.
- How big is the company?
- Small enough that you get the same people twice, and big enough to take on a new commercial service or a grain system. There is no ceiling on job size.
About the work
- What areas do you cover?
- Kosciusko County and the surrounding counties. In Kosciusko County: Warsaw, Winona Lake, Pierceton, North Webster, Syracuse, Leesburg, Milford, Claypool, Mentone, Silver Lake and Atwood. For the right job we will travel further, so ask. See service areas.
- Is any job too small to call about?
- No. A dead outlet is a real job and we would rather do it than have you wait for somebody who thinks it is beneath them.
- Do you work on houses, businesses and farms?
- All three, and often on the same day. See residential, commercial, industrial and agriculture.
- Is it a problem if somebody else did the wiring?
- No. Most of the buildings and systems we work on have been added to over many years.
- Do you work nights and weekends?
- For commercial work, regularly, because a lot of jobs can only happen when a business is closed.
When something is wrong
- Do you take emergency calls?
- Yes. We have taken calls round the clock since 1981.
- How fast can you get here?
- We will tell you honestly when we can be there, and we will not promise you a time we cannot keep. If it is urgent, say so when you call.
- Something smells hot. What should I do?
- Turn it off at the breaker if you can do that safely, and call us. Do not wait to see whether it gets worse. See emergency electrician.
- We have had storm or fire damage. Where do we start?
- Call before repairs start. We will document what we find and put the estimate in writing. Starting the repairs first makes everything afterward harder.
Panels, services and generators
- Will you tell me if I do not need a service upgrade?
- Yes. That happens more often than you would think, and we would rather say so than sell you a panel you do not need.
- Do you install standby generators?
- Yes. We put in propane, natural gas and diesel units. The normal install has an automatic transfer switch, so nobody has to be there to start it. If you prefer a manual one, we put that in instead. See generator installation.
- Do you service or repair generators?
- No. We install them. If yours needs servicing, that is somebody else’s work and we will say so rather than take it on.
Quotes and getting started
- How do I get hold of you?
- The office number is (574) 594-3532, and there is a form on the contact page.
- Do you charge for a quote?
- No. Quotes are free. Call or send us a message and tell us what you are trying to do.
- What do you need to know to quote a job?
- What you want done and what the building is. For anything on a farm or in a plant, we also need to know what is already there. Photos help more than descriptions.
