Electrical Work for Your House

Most of what we do in houses starts at the panel.

We start there because a panel with no space left in it, or fuses, or a service that was sized when the house had half of what it has now, stands between you and everything else you want to do. We are not trying to sell you a panel.

McClone Electric has worked on houses around Kosciusko County since 1981, and the second generation runs it now.

Service upgrades and panel change-outs

Fuse panels. Panels with no room left. A service that was fine when the house was built and is now carrying central air, a hot tub, a car charger and a kitchen full of things that did not exist then.

The before and after below is a house in Warsaw: the fuse cabinet that came out and the panel that replaced it. That job is on the Warsaw page.

After

We will tell you what your service can actually carry and what it cannot, including when the answer is that you do not need the upgrade you came in asking about. That conversation costs you nothing and it is worth having before the rest of the work is priced.

Adding to what is there

Circuits for a kitchen, a bathroom, an addition, a finished basement. A dedicated circuit for something that keeps tripping the one it shares.

In an older house the honest part is the route: getting a wire where it needs to go through plaster, hardwood and trim somebody cared about. If there is a way that takes an hour longer and saves a room, we will tell you about it and let you decide.

Lighting

Recessed lighting, under-cabinet lighting, ceiling fans, vaulted and beamed ceilings, porch and outdoor lighting, yard and security lighting.

Most lighting jobs start as a lighting conversation and turn into a panel conversation. It is better to have that one first, because it changes what the rest costs.

EV chargers

We install car chargers all the time now.

The charger is the easy part. The question is what your panel and service can carry with a car on them, which is the same conversation as above and is worth having before the charger shows up in a box.

Pools, hot tubs and outside

Hot tub circuits and disconnects. Pool equipment. Outdoor receptacles. Detached garages and shops. If there is a pole barn on the property, that has its own page.

Older houses

Around here that means fuse boxes, two-prong outlets with no ground, circuits never meant to carry a modern kitchen, and knob-and-tube, which is still out there. Some of it is dead behind plaster and some of it is still carrying a circuit somebody uses every day.

None of that means a house is unsafe on its face, and plenty of it is fine. We will tell you which.

When it cannot wait

Power out, a breaker that will not hold, something smells hot, storm damage. If it is the middle of the night, call anyway. We have answered the phone at all hours since 1981, and still do. See emergency electrician.

Questions people ask

How do I know if my house needs a service upgrade?
Your breakers will usually tell you before we do. If you keep resetting the same one, or there is no space left in the panel for what you want to add next, it is time to call.
Do you do small jobs around the house?
Yes. Nothing is too big or too small.
Do you work on old houses?
Yes. They take longer, and we would rather give you an honest quote at the start than have either of us surprised later.
