Electrician in Winona Lake, Indiana

Winona Lake has some of the oldest houses we work in, and old houses are their own trade.

McClone Electric has worked this end of the county since 1981, now in its second generation, and we are near enough that coming back to look at something is not a production.

Old houses, honestly

A house that has been added to for a hundred years tells you so as soon as the panel comes off.

What we run into around here:

  • Fuse boxes and panels with nothing left in them — no room for the circuit you actually need
  • Ungrounded two-prong outlets, which matter more than people think once there is a computer or a television on them
  • Knob-and-tube. We still run into it in Winona Lake: sometimes long dead and plastered over, sometimes still live on a circuit that gets used every day.
  • Circuits never built for a kitchen — a microwave, a toaster and a coffee maker on one twenty-amp run

None of that makes the house unsafe by itself. Some of it is fine as it is, and some of it needs doing before anything else gets added. We will say which is which, and if you do not need what you thought you needed, you will hear that too.

Working in a finished house

The wiring is only half of it. The other half is getting a circuit through old plaster, hardwood and trim without harming any of it.

That is slower work and we would rather do it slowly than patch a wall we did not need to open. When a longer route would save a room, we lay out both and you choose.

Remodels and lighting

Kitchens and additions, ceiling fans, recessed and under-cabinet lighting, outdoor and porch lighting. EV chargers, pools and hot tubs.

In an old house, most calls that start as “we are redoing the kitchen” turn into a conversation about whether the panel can carry it, and that conversation is worth having first. See residential.

Out on the water

We do boat lift wiring on Winona Lake.

A lift sits outside, over water, on a circuit that spends half the year switched off and the other half getting used every weekend, and we wire it with that in mind.

When it cannot wait

Something smells hot, or a breaker keeps tripping. With old wiring it is better to call straight away, and the phone has been answered day and night since 1981. Emergency electrician.

Questions people ask

Is an old house more trouble than you want?
No. It takes longer, and we would rather price that honestly at the start than be surprised halfway through.
Can you add circuits without tearing the place apart?
Usually. Sometimes the honest answer is that a wall has to be opened, and we will say so before we start rather than after.
How far away are you?
We are based in Warsaw, right next door.
